Hey, it's "win10epicfail" time again boys n girls. I digress..... issue#1 Yes, i've been out of the game for the last year. So lets discuss what has changed(what i missed) since i stopped updating my 10. Firewall still in effect, voluntarily using 16299.192 v1709 on my vintage 2017 Asus laptop.
Question: With the insider program growing even more moldy everyday, With the MSFT community website being "improved" to the point of non-functionality, with the expected bait n switch of the LAST windows OS's neverending development continuing endlessly into eternity......blah blah blah.
What i want/need, is to hear from all members & guests : At what point do we stop beating that dead horse ? Tell me which build/version works best for you and why/how you intend to keep using it from now on ?
Build 7601. Umm, I'm sorry, that is still Windows 7!
Windows 10 started sliding into to toilet with release 1803, only to see it grow worse by the time they hit 1809. In the next series of builds, code name 19H1, this has turned out to be series of updating problems, frequently bouncing back to Getting Things Ready and then re-downloading the whole mess multiple times before it actually installs, if you are that lucky. There have been reports of 3, 4, 5, 6 plus hours with multiple Giga-bytes of data being downloaded, if it is successful at all. If not, then one has to resort to using tricks to make it work. And as usual, the deprecation of programs and features in favor of adding in new unwanted apps still continues. Sub-systems are now being affected too. In this series of builds, as i leave my computer on 24/7, my computer now presents me with a black screen with mouse cursor only when I go to wake it up. Microsoft has changed something to the point that it no longer likes my display driver anymore. To get around this problem, I either have to use the Microsoft Basic Display Driver or if I want to use the proper display driver, I must now go old school and shut off my monitor manually when not in use.

Thanx for the response,Rick. I knew i could count on you.
In the next two years my plan is to swap in ALL my Windows7 drives and go through the process of getting them ready for the end of dayz. Plenty of info(just like Locutus and i did with Vista) to post on this website.
Back to my original question, What was the last Win10 install that actually worked for you? Do you have install media? Any intention of staying with an older build?
I don't actually use Windows 10 for much. I try to keep up on the Insiders Builds as they come out, but as it has been noted by others in the MS Insiders forums, interest is waining, so too is mine. I know I will keep using Windows 7 for as long as I can for my day to day stuff, it just works!

Agreed, Windows7 was the best. Still use it day in/out for REAL PC stuff.
Getting back to my original question..... We all know that the insider program(volunteer crash test dummies) benefited MSFT. They got millions of people to upgrade to 10 from 7. Poor suckers lived to regret it when they realized they couldn't restore back. OR clean install and ACTIVATE 7 with the keys they paid for. No argument there.
Is there a version of 10 that actually works on common hardware for you? Like i said, as of now build 16299v1709 is tolerable behind a firewall on my AsusX541. EDIT-Windows Media Player still plays 1080p video ,also oddball formats like DASH/ADTS audio files. Windows store is still a crapshoot at any given moment, unfortunately.

An Honest man !
Yeah, i hear ya Dozer. Those MuthrFudgers didn't deserve OUR help with the development of their software then. Like i said.... In the next two years we will post everything possible to make Windows7 ready for 2020.

<Rick> No, I've been too broke lately to go out and do something like that!

<Bayer A.User> @rick: Lately it seems i've been doing more LOWTECH(leaking plumbing) than anything else. But this aint a home improvement website....Haha

<Rick> Microsoft is supposed to be having another Bug Bash starting next week. It should be interesting since most of the 19H1 series of builds have had stability issues where things almost work, but don't.
Jan 17, 2019 17:58:17 GMT -6
<Rick> Whatever Microsoft is changing to the code base is breaking drivers, simple functions that have always worked before now don't, builds having chronic update problems going between builds is on the rise again, forcing the need for more clean installs.
Jan 17, 2019 18:02:10 GMT -6
<Rick> One would think most of this stuff should have been solved a long time ago for Windows 10, but the problems just seem to keep coming back, manifesting itself to be worse now than it was before.

<Bayer A.User> Pulled the trigger on FeatureUpdate v1803. Six hours of updates&Reboots and the end result was.....Failed to install Error 0x8024200d !shit, i didn't really want it anyway
Feb 18, 2019 14:28:29 GMT -6
<Bayer A.User> BTW,currently at 16299.192 v1709. We shall see how that works. If it scrambles my cable tv picture again I SWEAR TA GAWD THAT HDD GETS WIPED AND LINUX INSTALLED !
Feb 18, 2019 14:44:11 GMT -6
<Rick> Yeah, Windows 10 isn't very good at playing video files. No issues with Linux or Windows 7 on the same system.

<Bayer A.User> Microsoft and Nike apparently have the same business model
Feb 22, 2019 16:33:38 GMT -6
<Rick> Call me stubborn, but I am finally ready to give up on testing Windows 10. Going along with each new iteration, it has become more and more obstinate about getting installed onto a given system while chewing up more and more resources in doing so.
Jun 8, 2019 12:28:33 GMT -6
<Rick> With Windows 7 soon losing support according to Microsoft, I see there has been a lot more activity on YouTube where people are seriously looking at, and reviewing alternative OS's to use instead of Windows..
