C'mon Rick, You don't need "taffy" to tell you the MS support engineers are a bunch of Paki-stiffs with 4th grade english skills. Yeah, they can cut n paste those answers as good as anyone. The problem is their answers rarely have anything to do with the OP's question.
While i'm in the mood to rant..Lets talk about how completely ridiculous the insider/community has become. Talk about the inmates running the asylum.
What i see, fakes n wannabees who can't solve basic problems with ANY os much less a brand new one like 10. Then you have the volunteer(peer to peer) mod ass kissers who want a whole bunch of candy next to their profile names and pumped up statistics about how many answers they have marked as ANSWERS. Last but not least you have the self appointed "Guardians" who will report as abuse anything and EVERYTHING they see that will get them that coveted badge. Our old friend sneeriousEagle has that down to a science.
Jeez,it shouldn't come as a surprise that the entire ball of wax teeters on the brink of collapse.
Point Taken! Since the MOD's over there have started "cleaning house" at a wholesale level, I'm kind of surprised that thread is still up. Other than seeing the same old questions and problems resurfacing for umpteenth time on that forum, you really don't see too much else worth looking at anymore. In a way, it's now become comical watching the trolls trying start something amongst themselves as most of the critics are now gone from there.

Yep, what they do over there makes no sense . Kid gloves for the problem children while the adults get shown the door. If they "clean house" much more then no one will be left besides Ian,JoeNamco and our man 007.

Classic example of romper room insider forum.
BrandonBridges asks technical question...BrandonBridges answers his own question...BrandonBridges gets his merit badge. BrandonBridges dislocates shoulder patting himself on the back.

Anyone remember "Mr.Happy" from the insider program ? He seems to have vanished from the face of the earth. I would have bet $10 he would have wound up at win10epicfail by now. .....what say you, Techie007 ?

so they wanna make desktop systems huge chunky stuff
but they won't be able to make it 100% interchangeable
AMD is likely to tell them to take a hike, pound sand, etc. last time AMD was socket / slot compatible with Intel processors was over 20 years ago
many of the PC component Mfg will likely tell them to take a hike as well
nope: don't want a huge graphics card package the size of an IBM PC-XT box
it's hard enough keeping the cooling working in these current dust suckers never mind a component that is likely to be unserviceable yup, more throwaway junk > So much for being "Green" conscious
there is a place for modular but this ain't it

I find the lack of configuration options disturbing !
I felt a great disturbance in the force.. as if millions of win 7 systems suddenly cried out in terror.
I think it might be more the case of Microsoft wanting to have more control on the hardware aspect of computing. Introducing a new standard is one way to achieve it while giving them a leg-up in their quest to becoming a computer manufacturer.

Here we go again. Another example of an upgrade to 10 under the "you can always roll back to your previous OS" within 30 days B.S. Just for the helluv'it a few weeks ago, i did a clean install and successful version update of 10586.xxx just to verify the recovery-reset-rollback options. None of it worked. Could not even "repair" the install with the same media i used to install it in the first place.
It should be obvious to everyone by now. The free for a year upgrade to 10 is a trap. One false move and you'll be stuck in OS Limbo. Can't move forward with a wonked 10build, can't roll back to valid 7 or 8.1 that worked fine.
..Those with an hp machine will have the best luck with the (D:)Recovery partition courtesy of SupportAssistant.

@chuckcutler, Cloning the oem drive before even thinking about 10 is definitely a wise move. Toshiba provided free software with the purchase of a new SSD Pro,thats what i did before upgrading 8 to 8.1. WD and Seagate give away versions of Acronis.
I'm sorry but I lost all respect for "Norton" anything back in the 1990s. The backup software may be very good - and I admit to having read good things about it - but the name never meant much to me after Symantec bought it.

Author of the "How to Configure the 'To Work' Options" series of Windows books. Not feeling enough love to do one for Windows 10.
I got a little disheartened by Symantec a while back too when they had bought out Delrina WinFax. They didn't do too much to the program to improve it and dropped it like a hot potato when Microsoft broke it with the introduction of IE-7. The problem was caused by Microsoft needing to rewrite part of Windows XP code base so that it can accommodate IE-7. That caused a major compatibility issue with WinFax and Symantec wasn't interested in fixing it. To get the job done at the time, it forced us into having to use Microsoft FAX. That was the start of me developing a distain for Microsoft too. Each time Microsoft introduces a new version of Windows, one has to go back and check to see what programs have become incompatible or just plain broken. The me, program compatibility was good in Windows XP, but that's been on the decline ever since then.

^ This, is why I never ever install IE7 or IE8 version upgrades to XP seen too many things broken or borked by installing that garbage

So today I did a Google search and found a number of "disable GWX" and "MSN Windows 10 ad" threads on Microsoft Answers. I posted in each over the period of several hours, mentioning and linking my OptOut10 program. Low and behold, when revisiting one of the threads to read a response, I noticed that the content describing and linking the fix was gone. Went back and checked the other threads and noticed the same—in fact, my posts were left non-helpful with specific information gone. Turns out that a Microsoft employee by the name of Karthik Vengaloor thought it best to censor that information, but leaving the posts, hoping I wouldn't notice. I double-checked the CoC. There's nothing I violated. The program scores 2/54 on VirusTotal, a good score, so it can't be that. Now I'm reminded why I largely abandoned that caustic, censoring community. I still trust Microsoft too much, don't I? It's hard not to as a PC repair tech. And yes, I did restore the links. Not as creatively as before though.

Microsoft, is Windows 10 the best you could do? Really? After promising to listen to our feedback, what a letdown!
Yes, the MOD's have been busy cracking down over there. I've seen a number of old postings being edited by deletion and in some cases, entire threads being removed. On the latter, I get usually get an e-mail telling me about it. Even our old friend SE got himself kicked off the forums for a while for reposting a deleted post while doing his usual thing of trying to get the last word in.
That's interesting! The thing is, I haven't found any rhyme or reason for some of the censorship. I find myself often shocked at what they permit, and surprised at what they remove and who they ban. It all points to a very personal interpretation of the CoC along with selective enforcement.

<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
