I came across this question in the MS Forums. The original poster of that thread was complaining about Win10 apps specifically, but that got me to thinking. Could it be that we all have been so caught up with the technical short comings in the Windows 10 OS that we have overlooked what the OS isn't doing for the average user? We all do know many users don't like the phone based UI, the introduction of new apps nobody really wants but they are being forced upon us anyway, and then there is the deprecation of good, solid simple utility programs that has been a staple of the Windows OS almost since day one. I think the original poster of that article has come up with a valid point in asking the question of has anyone actually taken the time to take a poll on this? We know that Microsoft is certainly not doing it just by How they have turned a deaf ear to us. Even it's only just for fun, we should come up with our own list of the apps and other things we dislike about Windows 10.
I'll start:
The Settings App.
In all honesty, what can it do that the good old Control Panel couldn't do? There seems to be more that it can't do directly.
Display Drivers.
Microsoft at first promised us that if it was compatible with Windows 8.x, we won't have a problem in Windows 10. My, how things have changed since then.
The Mail App.
It is very watered down. Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail were all far more useful than the Mail App. Microsoft has now purposely dropped support on all of these older mail programs though they said that they weren't going to do that at the beginning of the Windows 10 Beta Program.
Windows Paint.
Microsoft did try replacing this one directly with Paint 3D in one of their builds, but relented once hearing all of the backlash about doing that. However, it's still on Microsoft's radar to get rid of it.
The Menu Bar.
Microsoft has been trying to wien us off this one for quite some time now. Someplace along the way, they have introduced the Ribbon Tool Bar. I tried to get used to using it, but invariably, I end up re-enabling it where ever possible or stick with older programs still based on the old menu bar system.
I'm only just getting started here, but let's see what else we all can add to this list.
