I have created a table of the different features in different Windows Versions to show the missing and unwanted features in Windows 10.(Proudly created in Excel for the desktop, not shitty office mobile)
I like where your head is at with regard to making existing releases better. I don't think you'll ever be able to make money off it (Microsoft will come down on you like a ton of bricks if you try), but I very much agree that a "best of all worlds" system can be a Good Thing. Bravo!
I have a well tweaked and augmented Win 8.1 system that I have been using daily going back to when 8.1 was released. As compared with your list:
Noel's daily driver Win 8.1 x64 MCE setup:
Year Released: 2013 Stability: Utterly reliable (recently up 40+ days on the same boot with daily hard use). Sister Version: Whatever Windows 8.1 is related to. Spying: Completely muzzled via configuration and and a deny-by-default firewall setup. Forced Updates: No, and some GWX and other Win 10 updates have been hidden. Windowed Store Apps: No, I don't use Apps at all. Horrible Universal Apps: No. Why would I want Apps? App Design: Metro I guess, but UAC is disabled so I can't run 'em. App Navigation: No, I guess. No Apps in sight. Aero Flip: No, but I never wanted it so never tried to resurrect it. ARM Version: N/A, I use a real computer (a dual Xeon workstation actually). Aero Glass Theme: Yes, with rounded corners and quite elegant graphics. Classic Theme: No. When I want to test with no theme I run Win 7 in a VM. Metro Theme: I'm not even sure what you mean. Stock Win 8.1? Ugh. Windows 10 Theme: No, nothing is flat or lifeless on MY desktop. Start Screen: There's one there, but I never use it. REAL Start Menu: Yes, Classic Shell, which is better than anything from Microsoft. Windows 10 Start Menu: Gawd no! UEFI Support: Probably, but my workstation is BIOS-based. Windows Media Center: Yep. Floppy Drive Support: Probably, but I don't have one. Multiple Desktops: Not in the software sense, but I have 3 monitors (which is even better). Cortana: That bitch is nowhere to be found, not even in my Win 10 VMs! New Task Manager: Yes, and the old one too, and Process Hacker, and Process Explorer, and... Power User Apps supported such as CPU-Z and Tor: CPU-Z yes, no idea what Tor is.
In addition to the above I have many tweaks and augmenting programs:
Taskbar, Desktop, and Explorer Windows:
Various delays (e.g., menus, live previews) minimized to improve responsiveness.
Aero glass with nice theme graphics, decent drop shadows to maximize ease of use.
Smaller window chrome sizes (but still with resizing borders), maximizes work area.
Taskbar auto-hides to maximize work area.
Items spaced closer together vertically in File Explorer windows.
Address bar always shows path, never breadcrumbs.
Default is always General Items view.
Explorer always shows actual HH:MM:SS, never "2 minutes ago".
Window pre-positioning depending on what folder is being opened.
Codec pack to facilitate thumbnails and previews for all kinds of windows.
Elimination of extraneous Navigation Pane entries e.g. Favorites, Libraries, Homegroup.
Starting Explorer windows in separate process facilitates better performance and reliability.
Use of real drives and folders (avoiding abstractions) thwarts Explorer window update failures.
No shortcut arrows on icons.
Configured so cursor does not "catch" at the corners of multiple monitors.
Thumbs.db file creation disabled to eliminate conflicts.
Drives named for easy identification across a network connection.
Tortoise Subversion integrated into Explorer.
Minimized number of items in System Tray to only those really needed.
ProgramData and AppData unhidden, because geeks often need to go there.
Send To menu augmented with handy additions such as Send To > Clipboard (as name).
7-Zip provides access to all kinds of archives.
Security and Robustness:
Custom hosts file blocks ad and malware sites, auto-generated from online sources monthly.
Internet Explorer disallows ActiveX and other dangerous features everywhere but trusted sites.
Virtually no IE add-ons, except from Classic Shell and Quero (for search box).
Tweaking for maximum privacy. Autonomous contacts to servers online minimized.
3rd party Sphinx firewall blocks all outgoing connections that haven't been specifically allowed.
Regular Win Defender and MalwareBytes AntiMalware scans (nothing is ever detected).
Nightly system image backups to drives with enough space to hold months of them.
System Restore history deepened, augments nightly backups.
Repair USB drive at the ready if needed.
Detailed status messages configured, to help more easily see what's happening at transitions.
OneDrive is removed entirely, settings synchronization is disabled.
Z-VSScopy to access shadow copy data.
Passes SFC and DISM checks.
Manual Update strategy:
Windows Update and Windows Firewall services normally Disabled
Updates can be done manually by enabling services and reconfiguring Sphinx firewall.
All updates vetted.
All Windows 10-related updates have been hidden and none will be let in.
General:
I Log in with a Local Account only.
UAC is disabled full-time (EnableLUA = 0), minimizing permissions issues.
Ridiculous disk Indexing feature has been disabled. SSDs are plenty fast.
Hybrid/fast boot stupidity disabled.
Write-back cache flushing disabled to improve performance.
Many unneeded components disabled (e.g., with Autoruns).
Many unneeded services disabled.
Virtually all Apps removed and de-provisioned.
Many unneeded scheduled tasks are disabled.
Always shows Windows Boot Manager and provides access to Advanced Boot Options.
Boots up to a minimum number of running processes.
grepWin for fast, rigorous searches.
Nightly logging of running processes, for comparison.
ShellExView to review and disable extraneous shell extensions.
Tons of other miscellaneous productivity enhancements and utility programs.
TEMP folder is C:\TEMP for maximal compatibility.
Gnu Toolkit enhances command line power with Unix shell-like tools.
Passwords never expire.
Short filename support disabled for max performance.
HWMonitor to monitor temperatures.
Full complement of good software development tools.
Calculator Plus, for an XP calculation experience.
Thought I'd mention these things to give you some other ideas for things you might want to include in your productivity version. I've written a whole book on how to do this.
It's quicker'n a model rocket with a B14-7 motor, but never explodes...
Nice chart. One thing though. I run Tor 5.5 in Redstone 1 build 14257 without issue. Of course that's through a VPN and with Windows telemetry disabled with Advanced Systemcare 9.1 Pro's System Reinforce. Seems the issue is of enough concern to folks that they added the feature to combat MS data gathering.
That there are now at least 3 or more different ways to tweak hundreds of settings to Shut Windows The Hell Up is testament that Microsoft has gone too far.
Be sure those applications will be considered "incompatible" at some point.
Incompatible with Microsoft's agenda, that is. At some point Microsoft is not going to allow Windows as a Service to be tweaked at all.
Trouble is, for each of us folks savvy enough to find and run one or more of these privacy-enhancing applications there are a hundred more still gullible and technically-challenged enough to just run Windows As Is.
It is MUCH easier to bury your head in the sand than to confront this reality. If there is one thing that can be said about people, is that they like to take the MUCH easier path.
The 4 month in-place upgrade is designed to make re-tweaking all the more difficult and painful, and as a bonus to allow "the new normal" to be redefined more quickly.
Those of us who have invested a lifetime and a career into Windows are all screwed. All we can do is delay the inevitable. I plan to delay it as long as possible.

<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<Rick> Hello. Just checking in.

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
