Today we are introducing a new ring named the Windows Insider Release Preview ring for both PC and mobile. The Release Preview ring will focus on Insiders that want to stay on the Current Branch (currently builds based off of 10586), but continue to receive early access to updates, application updates, and driver updates.
The 3 Windows Insider rings are:
Fast – Best for Insiders who enjoy being the first to get access to builds and feature updates, with some risk to their devices in order to identify issues, and provide suggestions and ideas to make Windows software and devices great.
Slow – Best for Insiders who enjoy getting early access to builds and feature updates, with less risk to their devices, and still want to provide feedback to make Windows software and devices great.
Release Preview – Best for Insiders who enjoy getting early access to updates for the Current Branch, Microsoft applications, and drivers, with minimal risk to their devices, and still want to provide feedback to make Windows devices great.
For more details on branches and our rings, check out one the first post in our new series called ‘Inside WDG’ here in Insider Hub.

Instead of streamlining the process, they make it more complicated.
Fastring, for impatient testers who gotta' have cutting edge problems. Slowring, for impatient testers who complain they are stuck on last months build with last months unsolved problems. Release preview, For testers with problems updating to the latest build with all the latest problems which can't be solved anyway.
I suggest a new "Tard" ring for impatient testers who wonder why their build 9926 is not working anymore and Mr.Joe Namco will not give them a minute of his time.
Or perhaps, a "silent" majority ring where testers let their machines use up all their bandwith updating other insider machines with the latest visual C++ patch, which will be installed 5 times in a row.
See, this explains everything. The reason they can't seem to get very much work done is because they're spending so much time maintaining all these "branches" of Windows. Now they've added yet another one! I'd be satisfied with a promise to fix/address most of the bugs, annoyances, and feature requests on my list within a year, and to receive a build every couple months that demonstrated their progress. As it is now, it's simply not worth all the extra builds as hardly anything changes between each build.
Microsoft, is Windows 10 the best you could do? Really? After promising to listen to our feedback, what a letdown!
On that subject, I *STILL* can't figure out if there's going to be a 10240 LTSB (which I have confirmed exists), a 10586 LTSB, a 15360 (or whatever's next) LTSB, and so on.
Branch maintenance is no small matter and it can get out of hand if Microsoft isn't absolutely adept at the engineering. I think we know how adept they are at engineering, so...

I wonder if it's possible to tweak some things in the registry and get Win 10 Pro to THINK it's LTSB... Hm..... Seems like some very interesting things accidentally happened during the pre-release testing when a certain branch identifier ended up wrong..........

As i recall, when insiders were changing reg values for that: the result was they recieved no updates at all. I may still have some screenshots on a flashdrive, somewhere. The point of LTSB is consistency day in day out. No 3am surprises for Mr. srFreekman. ...and his money.

Wow. I had a hella funny bit about adding a BOHICA ring, and what was going to be in Redstone 2, then my bloody keyboard slipped. All I can say is, at least they got all the stuff they put out there for the public nailed down cold before branching off again. Damn that post was funny. Bummer.
Maybe they should add a Insider EXTREME Suicidal Ring for those who haven't turned a system into a smoking hole in the desk in months and are getting twitchy.
<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> The rebroadcast is working okay.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<Rick> Hello. Just checking in.

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

Oct 9, 2022 17:32:44 GMT -6
<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
