For years Windows Live Mail has been a very reliable program to use in place of what Microsoft had left out of Windows 7. My favorite has been the 2008 version, Build 12.0.16.06 which was before the time Microsoft started screwing things up with their later versions. Microsoft, at one point, did say that they were still going to support Windows Live Mail up to and including Windows 10, but Microsoft being Microsoft, has proven once again that is not the case anymore as yet another one of their own programs will soon be falling off the supported list. It looks like I will soon be moving to something else for a mail client and it certainly won't be the crap that Microsoft is now offering as a replacement. Mozilla's Thunderbird is currently looking to become my next replacement e-mail program to use.
For those of you who may not know about the upcoming changes to Outlook.com, here is a copy of the latest e-mail I have received from them about the future of continuing to use Windows Live Mail:
I wonder if Outlook 2010 will be unable to reach my live.com eMail address (which I do not use for ANYTHING except way back when I joined the Insider program).
I'm certainly not going to miss it.
I've received no similar letter so far. We'll see.
Windows Live Mail 2012 "doesn't support the synchronization technologies used by the new Outlook servers". . . I wonder what technology they used then. I switched from my Outlook email address because Microsoft has the worst IMAP servers I have ever experienced. I experienced lost or corrupted emails regularly. PUSH/IDLE for realtime email notifications didn't work. Browsing folders on the server took several seconds per navigation. I got tired of that real fast when both GMX and Gmail work flawlessly both in Thunderbird and on my mobile device. Last I tried, Yahoo has issues too.
Microsoft, is Windows 10 the best you could do? Really? After promising to listen to our feedback, what a letdown!
It seems you can call anything "technology" nowadays.
Based on leaked memos of the past, Microsoft feels the strong need to continually change "technology" because people who are settled into systems that work don't part with their money for new systems that don't deliver more value. Apparently management has decided creating more value has just become too difficult.
Building better mousetraps is the only way to better the future. The only way.
Never stop caring about whether things really work, Techie007 (and all)!
I thought I would check out the new so called Outlook App from Windows Store.
What I got was the Windows Mail and Calendar app when I had searched for it.
I was surprised to see the system requirements stating it needs the 64-Bit version of Windows 10 to run the app.
Interesting. Microsoft seriously expects to upgrade all current windows users on older or limited systems to Windows 10 when they can't even make a fully compatible program/app to do so. Maybe it's just time for me to put in the extra memory sticks into my system, upgrade to the 64-Bit OS, and seriously forget about testing for compatibility anymore.
<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?

<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<Rick> Hello. Just checking in.

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
