Consumers will catch on quick and likely never buy another PC after getting burned. Like we said, this is a destructive version of playing the short game.
I've been saying for a while now that Microsoft has been using up its reputation... At this point, it's practically already used up.
I guess their "partners" feel it's okay to throw away their companies too.
Un-freaking-believable!
I just saw the film "Elisium" for the first time the other day. While the wheel in the sky is just a ridiculous construct to suit the film's story about a quest for redemption, the portrayal of what life will devolve to on the ground, specifically the degradation of the status of "have nots" to where the "haves" treat them as throwaways, seemed somehow eerily similar to where things feel like they're going.
"Apple didn’t mince words in its opposition to the proposed law: “We don’t support the current CISA proposal,” the company said in an unattributed statement last week. “The trust of our customers means everything to us and we don’t believe security should come at the expense of their privacy.” Others – Wikimedia, Reddit, Salesforce, DropBox – issued similar statements."
It would seem that apple is not ready to get on their Knees at the toes of the US congress and beg for more!\ PFFFFT i think MSFT built windows10 around CISA and are fully prepared to 'swallow deep"
one would think that MSFT would have made sure said overly priced norebook would have worked properly BEFORE it shipped and was made available for sale in stores. it does not bode well for craftmanship of either the surface or win10 of course we all knew that MSFT craftmanship sux these days
Display problems, why does this come as no surprise to me? The Insiders have been complaining display problems since the start of the program. I've had display driver issues that only seem to manifest itself when I'm browsing the web using IE 11 on web sites that have rotating advertising running. What happens in my case is the web page will stop responding and then start strobing the page similar to what has been described in the article posted. I usually get an error message that pops up telling me my display driver has stopped responding, windows has restarted the driver. When that happens, I find that I need to restart IE too. On one of the builds, I recall seeing a release note about this kind of display driver problem. Obviously, Microsoft still hasn't properly addressed it yet and now they are scrambling to fix it once more.
Build 10576 was released to the Fast Ring 37 minutes ago (see release notes and change log). This time I didn't switch my user account from a Microsoft one to a local one, and I learned about the build after seeing excessive Internet usage from my machine. I received the last build four days after release, and the one before that, almost 24 hours after release despite clicking "Check for updates" hundreds of times. This one after leaving my account as a Microsoft account? Mere minutes, and I didn't even have to check for updates. Hilarious!

Microsoft, is Windows 10 the best you could do? Really? After promising to listen to our feedback, what a letdown!

As Gomer Pyle would say :Surprise Surprise Surprise !!
Aww, it was a typo; thank you for catching it. It's fixed now. Regarding the privacy settings, don't we all expect that they will be reverted? I'll definitely document them anyway.
I had an Internet glitch during the download, and now the Windows Update service is hung. I can't stop it or start it. Will have to wait till tomorrow to reboot since I've got a day-long video encoding project running right now.

Windows 10 has been a great journey so far. Following the plan we originally outlined in June, more than 110M devices have upgraded. If you’re already running Windows 10 – thank you!
Our aspiration is for customers to choose Windows, and to love Windows. Our early data shows customers from France to Brazil to China to the US strongly preferring Windows 10 over Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. Through the usage of these first adopters of Windows 10, and great work by the Windows ecosystem of developers, application compatibility and kinks have been worked out of Windows 10. We’ve learned so much, and we’d like to share how we’re implementing some of our learnings which make it easier for consumers to upgrade to Windows 10.
The feedback in the Feedback app says otherwise. Anyway, going on:
Our original approach for the Windows 10 roll out included a two-step process: First, reserve, then later, we notify you to start the upgrade process. While over 110 million devices have successfully upgraded to Windows 10, the two-step process is no longer relevant now that we are beyond the preorder phase and Windows 10 is immediately available.
OK, ok, what's the new plan then?
We will soon be publishing Windows 10 as an “Optional Update” in Windows Update for all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 customers. Windows Update is the trusted, logical location for our most important updates, and adding Windows 10 here is another way we will make it easy for you to find your upgrade.
Haven't we seen this already? Microsoft even selected it automatically on some Windows 7 systems "by accident". Wait until you hear their next plans:
Early next year, we expect to be re-categorizing Windows 10 as a “Recommended Update”. Depending upon your Windows Update settings, this may cause the upgrade process to automatically initiate on your device.
If you are on a metered connection on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, then you have the option of turning off automatic updates. We strongly discourage this in today’s connected world because of the constant risk of internet threats.
Uh-huh. So you're saying that people will have to put their machines at risk to keep from inadvertently racking up a huge bandwidth bill, and you're planning this months in advance when plenty of time to code a patch? When can we start the Windows 10 lawsuit, guys? Microsoft is gone crazy!

<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<Rick> Hello. Just checking in.

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
