In these heady days where we are finding out that all of the telemetry that Microsoft has been sucking out of our systems, is just the fever dream of a few crackpots (That would be us), protective software is being added to Firewall/AntiVirus suites. The most explicit I've seen so far, is the most recent one that I've Beta Tested and is now in commercial release. So from the crackpots at IOBit (Yeah, I know, some of you blanch at the name, but run Wireshark, and NeoTrace with it), here are a few screenshots of Advanced Systemcare 9.1 Pro.
So maybe not perfect, but easy enough to keep you from going crazy resetting everything for those of us masochists on the fast ring with multiple testbeds. It should also give anyone ready to buy into the conspiracy theory crap that MS is trying to lay on us some satisfaction. We warned people and they didn't listen. Now software companies are addressing this intrusive, inclusive data mining and dissemination.

I've used O&O ShutUp10 and W10Privacy. I wonder if Advanced Systemcare 9.1 Pro covers things those two don't.
And of course all are being actively updated, so it's still a bit like all the dust in the early solar system trying to congeal into planets... We can sort of see what it's going to be, but the totality of it all is not yet apparent.

Author of the "How to Configure the 'To Work' Options" series of Windows books. Not feeling enough love to do one for Windows 10.
I found it hilarious that when they added windows 10 reinforce that they considered all microsoft telemetry gathering to be a hacker threat, and recommended disabling it. There is also a section in the DNS setting to allow you to shunt your DNS to spoofed addresses. They added that stuff after i beta tested v9.0. Their Malware Fighter 4 which I also beta tested incorporated BitDefender antivirus. You have to get the dl for that one by searching for 4.o, and you end up with 4.0 RC which is like an RTM so you need a serial key for the pro features like BitDefender. If you want to try it I can get a key for you, and provide instructions for activation, for eval purposes of course.

Thats no surprise. Malwarebytes identified svchost.exe as Trojan and quarantined it more times than i can remember with the TechPreview builds. OS worked fine without it.

I've not seen that happen. But I only run MalwareBytes as a static scan; I don't use the "real time protection" components.
Having run my current security strategy for well over a decade without an infective agent so much as knocking at the door of my safety net real time protection software (Avast, then Windows Defender), not long ago I finally decided not to run any at all.
Now I get my compiles done in record time, everything's fast and light, and no MBAM scan turns up any problems.
My hosts file now has over 27,000 entries, compiled daily from these sites:
Plus my DNS server now has even more blacklist entries (over 67,000 as of today), as it incorporates not only the above sources, but additional lists as well. Yet everyone here can still browse everything with virtually no problems.
But I digress...
On the original subject of this thread, I'm posting this in several places... I've just run across a disturbing fact: Windows uses ctldl.windowsupdate.com for legitimate certificate management activities, and that server name (which resolves to a big bank of CDN servers) is ALSO involved with Windows Update activity. I am still trying to work out a strategy for facilitating certificate management while making sure to stomp on Microsoft's foot-in-the-door with serious weight.
After checking my notebook, It was Techpreview build 9926 at first. Malwarebytes custom rootkit scan found 2 items: Labled "Security-Hijack" Immediately after upgrading from 9879. They were registry keys, HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\WindowsNT\current version\image file execution options\svchost.exe They reappeared with build 10041,quarantined again.
I think it's a great feeling of vindication after so many months of us trying to warn people, and in turn being called paranoid, or alarmists. The more versions of security software I test. the more of them default toward paranoid mode. It shows that Microsoft's insistence that the telemetry is benign and anonymous is complete bullshit. Yay us.
<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
