I am using OpenDNS—in addition to a local DNS cache server on my network, and I didn't notice anything. Accessed Amazon multiple times that day throughout the day. I find it interesting that DNS servers seem to be the latest targets of DDoS attacks. I don't know about you all, but I am strongly in favor of local ISPs running their own DNS servers, servers that should be programmed not to throw away cached DNS records once the TTL expires. Yes, refresh on TTL, but if you can't refresh, go ahead and use the cache after a half-second timeout or something. The vast majority of sites work flawlessly even with days old cached DNS records. These hacktivist crooks will stop targeting DNS servers if it stopped "bringing the Internet down" for a large percentage of the public due to proper DNS caching being implemented all over the Internet.
Interesting site, by the way!
Microsoft, is Windows 10 the best you could do? Really? After promising to listen to our feedback, what a letdown!

Excellent food for thought,Techie007 If i wanted to pretend that i was srFreakman and play the devil's advocate,I would say this is precisely why the average goofball using an outdated OS should upgrade to 10. Of course we know better, don't we. Denial of service attacks are nothing new. Flooding a website with traffic-overwelming it-effectively shutting it down. It's been done before. The only difference now is that far too many people take internet services for granted and panic at the first sign of trouble. Reminds me of the current ISP commercial on TV where the goofy broad desperately needs to "Like" something NOW or her goofy husband curls up in the fetal position and moans about how "its been soooo long since i've seen an online movie based on a comic book!" while she wipes his forehead with a damp washcloth. Poor, poor dear. This is the world we live in.
P.S.- I was able to do all i needed to do online Friday without any troubles. Dwnlded driver/software package from Brother website so my latest Linux machine could print/scan from my network printer. Not nearly as melodramatic as posting on twitter! LOL
and DirecTV keeps sending me on screen messages and emails to connect my dvr to my ISP. I pegged IoT as a marketing scheme years ago. It's all about selling hardware to replace the loss of PC sales. Who in their right mind would want to connect their frig. thermostat, front door, lights, HVAC, car or anything else to the Internet when they know, or should know, that it is all hackable.
1. I have my own DNS server. 2. Things it can't resolve go to OpenDNS, which apparently never went down.
Bravo to Techie007 for a very down to earth suggestion.
So many of the problems with technology nowadays could be solved if only it was just set up and used more intelligently. But few others want to work hard enough to learn how any more. We have a rare and exceptional pool of talent right here on this site.
I use Comodo Secure DNS. I had no issues with my internet. However, Hulu, Netflix, Playstation Vue, and a couple of other services were also subjected to a DDoS attack Friday afternoon, and they were hosed up for a few hours. I had to watch AT&T Uverse instead. Bleh. Life is so hard.
AWESOME feedback, fellas especially Techie and Mike!
all that was said by most media outlets was an ATTACK. not too many mentioned the devious IOT as the biggest culprit. NO THANKS! everything but my computers will stay away from the IOT. dont need it, dont want it. i dont even need to talk to those devices with my cellphone IOT is PURE bullshit!

Chinese electronics firm Xiongmai is initiating a product recall after the enormous hacking attack that took down much of the internet on the eastcoast of the US and also affected Europe on Friday. The root of the attack, which took the form of a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS), was a network of hacked “Internet of Things” devices, such as webcams and digital recorders, many of which were made by Xiongmai.
Researchers have accused the firm of shipping its products with basic security errors, such as the inability to set a password on some forms of connection, which led to them being co-opted into the “Mirai” botnet, a multimillion-strong network of hacked devices.
Yep, buying anything online cyberMonday is a risk. I saw a couple redirects to bogus log on's(google) as well as a link that led to one of the fake ransom browser exploits. You know the one with the red screen that warns of impending Doom if you don't immediately type in your user name and password. Yeah, people still fall for that stuff. Another fake security warning from a common "free" dot tk domain claiming i had the yahLover worm on my system and i needed to enter the SS# of my first born child. That sort of thing. ESC or CTRL>ALT>Delete still solves that foolishness !
"ya can't fix stupid" -if people want to buy shoelaces online with paypal and put their checking accnt at risk then bad stuff is gonna' happen. Reminds me of the classic line in Hillstreet Blues.... Let's be careful out there !
I was looking over cases of canned food on Amazon.com. For a particular product, cases of 8 cans are running about $43 plus about $10.
In the search listing was one for $40 with $6.50 shipping. Seemed like the best price so I ordered.
Delivered today: One goddamn can! For $46.50 total.
I have requested a return already, but this is a situation where some asshole priced one can at a price where it would undercut the others' case prices by just a little bit in order to take advantage of people being in a hurry or busy or distracted. A close look at the description sure enough DOESN'T say "one case", but neither does it say "one can" either.
My fault for not having noticed it doesn't say one case. But geez, I miss the days when business was generally honest.

Not a Denial of Service attack in the strict sense, nevertheless a real world example of what we all could run in to at some point. Let's be careful out there !

Ack! IE "Say it ain't so!"
wonder if that number is valid here
since them MS scammers will never call me (I think I know why hehehe!)
might have to call them one day and introduce them to some psy-ops call and tell them you are working on a very important military op in the field and the system just popped this up risking the mission meanwhile playing in the background is a whole bunch of different sound effects from various types of firearms, bomb blasts etc.
I find the lack of configuration options disturbing !
I felt a great disturbance in the force.. as if millions of win 7 systems suddenly cried out in terror.
<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
