I like your doctored up screen shot taken from the video. It pretty much sums up how much we just can't trust Windows Update to always do the right thing. There is far too much evidence out there proving that a fully updated system is not always a good thing have, even in Windows 10!
How many people do you know who actually suffered the problems - which I admit could occasionally be real in theory - from a "fragmented" system?
I've always followed a "take all they have with a few exceptions" strategy.
There have been subsystems that it simply wasn't reasonable to accept. That telemetry blob, for example. Or the update for Windows 7 that gives Microsoft the regular opportunity to deactivate your "permanently activated" installation.
Of course it required actual documentation to make those choices. Documentation we no longer will be getting. There just won't be the opportunity to be selective going forward into Windows 10, since the updates are being presented in those mostly undocumented cumulative blobs. Somehow I just cannot see that as advancement. And I'm not exactly myopic.
The whole thing boils down to this:
Are people really suffering with poorly running fragmented Windows 7 and 8 systems now?
My Windows 8.1 and 7 systems are running as well as I've ever had Windows run - and certainly as well as or better than my Windows 10 test system, which I don't stress much.
I would say, in general, the answer is NO.
Windows As A Service makes the tacit assumption that Microsoft could run a system better than the remaining older version users. So far as I can tell, then can't, and they NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO do it better than some of us - many of us - even when actual smart people worked at Microsoft.
Imagine basing a company strategy on the concept that you're smarter than your users, when it can't possibly be achieved. SRFreeman, this means you, especially.

this is why we hate forced updates:
I don't refuse many updates but there are some that will never be installed on my systems eg. got this one today on the Toshiba project (winders search, um ya, no! I use DOS CMD Promtps for ultra fast file hunts and it doesn't give away my data)
I find the lack of configuration options disturbing !
I felt a great disturbance in the force.. as if millions of win 7 systems suddenly cried out in terror.

What really bugs me about "Windows as a service" is that they reserve the right to change the rules at any time. As of now i have two legitimate activation keys that have been declared invalid by them. Since the end of the FREE upgrade offer MSFT is not interested in indulging my new installs anymore. <Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<Rick> Hello. Just checking in.

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
