I've just had a look at the statcounter data for the period 29 Jul to 22 Oct to look at the rate of change in the usage figures. Some interesting trends, especially if you ignore the weekend "blips". See the attached graphs Win X uptake.xcf (68.16 KB) Win X Uptake excl weekends.xcf (86.2 KB)
I overlaid the adoption rates for Win 7 on top of Win 10, and lo and behold Win 7 equaled or outpaced Win 10's rate for the last 6 weeks.
The world is broken if Microsoft is being rewarded on Wall Street for releasing a free upgrade that's not being adopted any faster than one that people paid hundreds of dollars for. We are all shaking our collective heads.
By the way I noticed a downward blip for Win 7 last week when Microsoft "accidentally" pre-checked the Win 10 update box in the optional list. Thinking about that, and the "Install Updates and Shut Down" feature, I imagine that snared a bunch of folks who either don't have the wherewithal to go back, had a problem that an OS install solved, or don't really even know enough to sense the reduction in function.
I don't imagine Microsoft is going to reduce their aggressiveness, and something tells me we haven't seen all their tricks yet.
But I predict the bubble will burst, big time. Reality has a way of making bullshit go away.

Mal, for the benefit of our windows friends- export those pics as png's next time.
Google "Windows 10 is good" or "Windows 10 is great" (with the quotes): In the vicinity of 75,000 results. "Windows 10 is bad" or "Windows 10 sucks" net: Roughly 25,000 results.
Conclusion: 3 out of 4 people don't have a clue.

Maybe that's not so bad after all. Look at it this way: Those couple of people on Microsoft Answers who like to tell us that the Windows 10 "Like" ratio is approximately 180,000,000:5 are dead wrong. You just proved that the ratio is more like 75:25. Out of 180 million users, that's 45 million disgruntled users. I'd say that's enough to start a lawsuit.

Microsoft, is Windows 10 the best you could do? Really? After promising to listen to our feedback, what a letdown!
I'm guessing maybe 50 of the 75 in that 75:25 ratio are paid shilling... Microsoft's campaign to flood the world with its opinion hasn't been meager.
Maybe it's more or less even or even generally negative. All of Microsoft's moves smack of desperation, not "the next Big Thing" certainly.
And while Engineering cutting edge stuff is difficult, each of us knows in our heart of hearts that with a few billions and a horde of minions we could have done much more than they've managed to do so far AND engineered SOMETHING that's better than Win 10 for smart people too. A lot better.
note "the flattening" that happened after the first month or so. trends are MORE important than NET, because they can be used to PREDICT OUTCOMES LATER ON. Within a month, looks like 7's adoption rate will EXCEED that of W10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<Rick> Hello. Just checking in.

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
