Oh thank you. That was fast! Just a couple ideas worth floating to see what others think:
1. We now have two "News" boards. Perhaps rename one of them simply "News", and move the "Forum news" and other news sections inside of it, like this: News |----Forum news |----Gear news |----Windows news General Win10 failure ... instead of: Forum news |----Forum news Tech news |----Gear |----Windows General Win10 failure ...
2. What does everybody think about the two news sections "Windows news" and "Gear news" versus having a single "Tech news" section? I'm just thinking that maybe we shouldn't spread ourselves too thin, and with the type stories we tend to be interested in, sometimes it's hard to decide which of those sections to post a particular story into:
"Microsoft warns enterprises to upgrade to Windows 10 or be left behind" due to new CPUs not being supported by Windows 7 or 8. Windows? Or Gear?
Here's another: "PC market share sees biggest decline in history amidst Windows 10 release" Gear (PC sales down, Mac sales up), or Windows (Win10 suppressing the market)?

Microsoft, is Windows 10 the best you could do? Really? After promising to listen to our feedback, what a letdown!
Guys, I was hoping for some opinions and discussion on the above!
Anyway, Ami, thank you for the changes made so far. I don't know what's possible with this platform, but would it be possible for you to:
Remove all the URL formatting restrictions, so I can change font size, bold, underline, and so on, in URLs?
Increase the maximum thread title length? It appears to be limited at 60 characters. Could it be bumped up to something more reasonable, like 100 or 150?
Disable the Twitter bug? I posted a URL to Twitter, and it gets replaced by a Twitter applet that's invisible with my default tracker blocking settings. I want it to post the URL as I wrote it.

Your suggestions seem good to me, though I think Ami or Michael have to do the organizational magic, after having thought it through of course.
I have a suspicion that if the number of posts per page were to be increased that the browser would become essentially unresponsive. There's something tremendously inefficient being done in the JavaScript.
Hang in there, Ami. It's great that you've put so much effort into organizing things and getting this forum to work as well as it does so far (and it's not your fault that there are the shortcomings there still are).

all good things Techie007 ill look into it. thread title limit i think thats on proboards. as for twitter ive posted links from here with no problems. it may be something on your end.
as i said before i dont care about the board layout im just waiting for everyone to agree on what they want. ive placed a few boards as a sorta proof of concept so just let me know.
sorry i havent been around lately. those in the irc channel knows why. in 9 days ill be gone for an indeterminable time. im really sorry guys i promise illmake it upto you. Where im going has no internet. im looking at getting one of those portable hotspot things from walmart so maybe i can be online. if not i wont be back for quit a while.
I like I idea of reorganizing the news threads too. As for the poor responsiveness problem, I've been noticing that it seems to be the worst when I'm accessing this page using IE11 under windows 10. I don't notice the problem all that much when I'm using other browsers.
Edit: The responsiveness is fair, but not great when I'm using IE10 under Windows 7.

Yes, I've heard. That's sad. Anyway, a cheaper option might be to get a high-powered USB WiFi device, which will let you surf the Internet from parking lots of various stores, malls, and restaurants that have free WiFi. Personally, I've used the Alfa AWUS036NHR with good success. Sure beats the built-in WiFi at distance!

Oh, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I posted a tweet link from Twitter, here onto the forum. Instead of displaying the link to the tweet as I wrote it, it tries to embed a Twitter applet. I want it to leave my link text alone!

Techie007, i see. Try that again then if you dont mind. I think i have it changed now. Maybe edit your post and see if it removes the embedding. I can also do other media sites but just as a test ive only done it for twitter. let me know if its working now.
Techie007, yep got it fixed now. You will need to edit your post and delete the placeholder and repaste the link. all future links should just show up as links now.
<Rick> Good video. It's almost hard to believe that at one time Windows 98 was the resource hog, but even then, it still ran circles around what Windows 10 can do on today's modern hardware and look a heck of alot better doing it.

<Rick> As stated elsewhere, So much for the launch of Windows 11, "The Great Crash." Myself, I had a hard time getting into the site listed above, when I did get in, the video was partly done and then it crashed. There has been many other reports of crashing.

<Rick> I see Microsoft has been very quick to pull down reports of site crashing regarding the Launch of Windows 11 on the Microsoft Insiders forum.

<Rick> With reports of people being able to install the dev-edition of Windows 11 on machines not meeting spec, I thought I would give it a what-the-heck try. Lucky me, I'm caught in the downloading, doesn't meet spec, clearing, re-downloading loop on my machine!

<Rick> I've recently purchased a license for ArcaOS from www.arcanoae.com/ to play with. First impressions, it's still OS/2, but it now has a Linux twist to it.

<dozrguy> laptop shit out and am stuck buying a new one. os win11 as fucked as win10 was?
Oct 2, 2021 12:56:10 GMT -6
<Rick> Let's see ..., my impression of Windows 11 is that it is a spruced up version of Windows 10 requiring a 64-bit processor plus a piece of security hardware that is less than 4 years old in order for it to run.

<Rick> On the plus side, Microsoft is supposed to be supporting Windows 10 for some time to come for those of us still using systems with I7 or older processors.

<dozrguy> STILL so much bullshit and so little time for the kiddie ideas from the hill. My new laptop (MSI GE 11-UH461) would be an awesome "10" machine but because of Winblows I can only give it a "2"......wasted $3500

<isidroco> Each new w10 update adds >100000 useless files to \Windows\Servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix... folders. Even in a SSD takes time to delete that stuff. In each version they manage to worsen stuff.

<Rick> No, there does not seem to be very much traffic these days. I still check in from time to time.
